Bleak.

sidkay:

Knowledge gained over the weekend, a discussion among amateur social scientists / economists : on a theoretical (perfect) free market economy, workforce supply is always greater than its demand.

Along with technological progresses, menial tasks completion will be automated, leaving blue collar workers jobless. Computers will bring a tremendous amount of efficiency, a 20 men task can now be completed with only 5 men.

White collar professions, those brain over brawn kind of jobs, would still triumph. The thing is, the job market will be crowded. Those who were previously in the blue collars job market, (rationally and ideally) will send their children to a better school compared to themselves. To prep them in the already competitive white collar job market.

However…

Do you really need an accountant? There’s Quicken. Do you need more marketing staffs to reach out your target markets? There’s Twitter and other viral media. Do you need a secretary? There’s Google Calendar. Do you need a stock broker? There’re dozens of online broker like this.

For everything else, there is MasterCard Google.

Not only factory jobs, computers are already doing some of our white collar jobs, and might be even better than those who is in the profession. This in return, will obviously reduce the workforce demand. And get some of them younglings some troubles on getting jobs.

But I guess, if you’re really good at what you’re doing, if you actually love what you’re doing / studying you’re going to have a better chance of surviving the harsh job market competition than those who are not. Ideally you’re going to have an edge than those who are in the same profession but doing it half-heartedly and don’t know shit about whats this profession is all about.

And finally, to make this post ends on a lighter note, worry not, there are always the entrepreneur paths and The All Mighty Government, ready to sort out these unemployment problems.
